How we make money

Your Home Energy Plan is free. Here's how we keep the lights on.

We make money in two ways, and only from some of what we suggest: a one-off commission on some tariff switches, and an affiliate commission on some of the products we recommend. Most of what's in your plan — the advice, the home score, and the actions you can take yourself — earns us nothing.

We earn a commission on some switches; the amount varies by supplier and is never added to your bill. We only ever earn when you go ahead — and it never changes how we rank what's best for you.

Does this affect what we recommend?

No. Our calculation engine ranks tariffs — and orders every recommendation in your plan — by how much they'll help you, not by how much we earn. A few specifics so you can check our work:

What we compare

We compare domestic electricity tariffs from the following suppliers:

We do not compare gas tariffs. Most UK households are on dual fuel, but the switching and optimisation opportunity for EV, heat pump, solar, and battery households is almost entirely on the electricity side — which is where we focus.

We don't claim to cover every tariff in the market. If you want a whole-of-market view, the Citizens Advice comparison tool is a good independent starting point: energycompare.citizensadvice.org.uk.
