Smart Home Energy is a free tool. We don't charge you anything to use it. Here's how we keep the lights on.
How money changes hands when you switch
If you find a better tariff through us and click “Switch now”, one of two things happens depending on the supplier: either we earn a one-off commission paid by them (never added to your bill), or you receive a one-off bill credit from them and we earn nothing. The full breakdown is below.
Who pays us and how much
These are the suppliers we currently have arrangements with, what gets paid per electricity switch, and who it goes to:

We're in the process of adding more suppliers. This page is the source of truth — if a supplier isn't listed here, no money changes hands either way when you switch to them.
Does this affect which tariff we recommend?
No. Our calculation engine ranks tariffs by how much they'll save you, not by how much we earn. A few specifics so you can check our work:
- We show the top 3 recommendations every time. The top pick is always the one with the biggest estimated annual saving for your setup, regardless of whether we earn a commission on it.
- We'll happily recommend a tariff we earn nothing on if it's the best fit. For example, if you're already with Octopus and your current tariff is already the best match for you, we'll tell you to stay put.
- We do not hide tariffs from suppliers who don't pay us a commission. If they're in our data and they're competitive for your profile, we'll show them.

We do not compare gas tariffs. Most UK households are on dual fuel, but the switching and optimisation opportunity for EV, heat pump, solar, and battery households is almost entirely on the electricity side — which is where we focus.
We don't claim to cover every tariff in the market. We're not accredited to the Ofgem Confidence Code. If you want a whole-of-market view, the Citizens Advice comparison tool is a good independent starting point: energycompare.citizensadvice.org.uk.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data to anyone.
- We don't share your data with suppliers beyond what's needed to process your switch if you choose to switch.
- We don't take payment from suppliers to rank their tariffs higher.
- We don't display supplier advertising on the tool.
Product recommendations
When we recommend a product (like a smart EV charger or a home battery), we may earn an affiliate commission from the retailer or manufacturer. We'll label these clearly as product recommendations, separate from the tariff comparison. We only recommend products we believe genuinely save money or improve your setup for your specific usage pattern — not whatever pays us the most.
